Treatment of Uncomplicated Malaria

Important Notes for Treatment:
- Take with food and at least 240ml (8oz) of water
- Do not crush or chew tablets
- If vomiting occurs within 1 hour, repeat the full dose
- If vomiting occurs between 1-2 hours, give half dose
Malaria Prophylaxis (Prevention)

Prophylaxis Schedule:
- Start: 1 week before entering malaria-endemic area
- During: Continue weekly throughout stay
- After: Continue for 4 weeks after leaving endemic area
Missed Dose Instructions
For Prophylaxis:
- If you miss a weekly dose, take it as soon as possible
- Do not take double doses to make up for missed doses
- Resume weekly schedule as soon as possible
- If more than 7 days have passed, consult healthcare provider
For Treatment:
- Treatment is typically a single dose
- If vomiting occurs, follow the guidelines above
- Consult healthcare provider immediately
Overdose Information
Emergency Information
In case of overdose, seek immediate medical attention or contact poison control center.
Symptoms of Overdose:
- Severe nausea and vomiting
- Dizziness and headache
- Visual disturbances
- Psychiatric symptoms (anxiety, confusion)
- Cardiac arrhythmias
- Seizures (in severe cases)
Administration Guidelines
With Food
Always take with food to reduce gastrointestinal side effects
With Water
Take with at least 240ml (8oz) of water
Timing
Take at the same time each week for prophylaxis
Whole Tablets
Swallow tablets whole, do not crush or chew
Duration of Therapy
Treatment Duration
Single dose therapy for acute malaria treatment
Prophylaxis Duration
Minimum 2 weeks before travel, continue during stay, and 4 weeks after return
Maximum Duration
Not recommended for prophylaxis longer than 1 year without medical supervision
